Jefferson Street Freedom Riders
With the help of students from MLK Magnet and Pearl Cohn, this mural was designed as a tribute to the Freedom Riders of 1963. Over a three day period the students all got together and developed their own concepts, which I broke down into the final design. I put on a base coat and pounced the basic outline, but the students did all of the painting. We actually had some original Freedom Riders attend the unveiling. Very moving tribute. Now, if we can just keep the rednecks from defacing the wall…
